You can draw a child immediately into a Bible lesson with an introduction that relates to his experience. Here are a couple of examples:

Mary and Martha might have tried all of those things to make Lazurus better. He was very sick. They might have tried to putting extra blankets on him, feeding him chicken soup or making him rest, but nothing seemed to work.
