Teaching Children to Keep From Sin
Unfortunately, having been born in sin, children do not need to be taught to
sin, but instructed to keep from sin. Here's a plan:
- First make sure that the children know Christ as Savior. Romans 6 teaches
us that until you know Christ you are a slave to sin. When was the last time
you presented the Gospel to the children and gave a clear invitation?
- Be sure to regularly teach scripture memory verses and review them. Psalm
119:9 says, "How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according
to Your word." And Psalm 119:11, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I
might not sin against You."
- Finally, live your own life in a way that is pleasing to God. Luke 6:40
says, "...everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher." If you
do not live a life of holiness walking "in the light as He is in the light"
in the power of the Holy Spirit (even when the children cannot see you,)
neither will the children you teach.
