Forgiveness And Salvation
I have observed some teachers use the term “ask God to forgive your sins” when giving an
invitation to receive Christ. While it is certainly true that when a person is saved his sins
are forgiven, a distinction needs to be made so the child is not confused between salvation and
a believer’s need to ask forgiveness for specific sins.
Try using different terms explaining salvation while including the fact that it also means that
God forgives all your sins. Here are a few suggestions:
- “Become a Child of God” - This term really focuses on the relationship that begins at
the moment of salvation. They now belong to God and God belongs to them forever.
- “Saved” - Not only are their sins forgiven, they are saved from the punishment and power of
sin.
- “Have Eternal/Everlasting Life” - They will live together with God forever starting right now.
